First thing — Icom quietly dropped some info about additional accessories for the IC-905 which if you havent been following that radio is their microwave/UHF all-in-one thing. looks like theyre finally addressing the external unit mounting options which was a complaint i saw all over eham. Nothing revolutionary but good to see them actually listening i guess.

But honestly the bigger thing right now is 6 meters. I was just spinning the dial last night not expecting much and suddenly ran into a massive opening into the caribbean and parts of south america. Worked a few stations in Venezuela and one in colombia i think, signals were genuinely S9 on some of them which is wild for this time of year. If youre sitting on a 6m capable rig RIGHT NOW go turn it on. seriously. Been hearing the DX cluster is lit up all morning too.

Also saw somewhere that the ARRL is planning some changes to the field day rules for next year but i cant find the original source again, might have been a rumor. Worked a handful of South American stations last Tuesday without even really trying, just had the radio on in the background while i was doing other stuff and suddenly i heard a pile-up forming on 28.450 or so.

Anyway thats not the main thing i wanted to mention. Apparently Icom is supposed to be dropping something new in the transceiver space, ive seen some chatter on a couple other forums but nothing super concrete yet. Anyone seen any actual specs or is it still just rumor territory? I remember when the IC-7300 came out and the hype was real but sometimes these things turn out to be a minor refresh and people get all wound up for nothing.

Also — and this is more of a side question — did anyone catch the ARRL announcement about the upcoming HF phone sweepstakes dates? plus some band stuff worth mentioning

So ive been lurking on a few different sites this past week and theres been a lot of chatter about the new Icom stuff they previewed at the Tokyo Hamfair. Cant find great English coverage but from what i can piece together it looks like they might be doing something in the handheld D-STAR space again, maybe a successor to the ID-52 lineup? Not confirmed obviously but the photos floating around looked pretty interesting.

Also totally separate thing — 10 meters has been absolutely wild lately if you havent been on. Worked into South America three days running from my little backyard vertical, which almost never happens from my QTH. Solar flux has been sitting up pretty high and the SFI was like 190something yesterday. If you havent dusted off whatever you have for 10m its worth firing it up just to see whats there.

Oh and for anyone into portable ops, the POTA activations in my region have been picking up a lot this fall. Seems like more people doing it which is cool. Anyway just wanted to share since not everyone follows all the same sites i do.

ARRL Repeater Directory 2026 Just Arrived - Now with Digital Mode Support!

Just picked up the new ARRL Repeater Directory 2026 Edition from DX Engineering.
