i dont even have anything to do half the time i just spin the dial on 40 meters after dinner and listen to whatever comes through. caught some guy last night from louisiana telling another guy about his chicken coop situation for like 20 minutes. didnt key up or anything just kind of vibed with it. there's something about the way 40 opens up after dark that i cant really explain to my wife or anyone who doesnt do this hobby. anyway just wondered if anyone else does this or if im weird lol

nope you're not weird, i do the exact same thing. 40 at night is like the AM radio of ham bands, you just never know what you're gonna hear. i picked up a net out of tennessee a few weeks ago that was just a bunch of older guys arguing about whether propane or charcoal was better and i listened for probably 45 minutes. never transmitted. sometimes thats just the hobby y'know.

so anyway i finally started doing this too after my buddy told me about it. i kept thinking i had to be DOING something when i got on the air but honestly just listening is half the fun when the bands cooperate. 40 gets weird and wonderful after like 9pm local. also heard some spanish language traffic last week which i think was south america but im still figuring out propagation so who knows
