First-time LoTW setup - confused about certificates

Hi everyone! KD8ABC here, just got my ticket a few months ago. I'm trying to set up LoTW for the first time and I'm completely lost with the certificate process. Do I really need to mail my license copy to ARRL? The TQSL software is asking for all this certificate stuff and I have no idea what I'm doing. I've got about 50 QSOs logged already and want to start confirming them digitally. Any step-by-step guidance would be much appreciated!

Yes, you need to provide proof of identity to get your certificate. For US hams it's pretty straightforward - just mail a copy of your license. Once ARRL processes it (takes about a week), you'll get your certificate file and can start uploading contacts.

The certificate process seems scary but it's really not bad! I did mine last year and it was worth it. The system automatically matches your contacts with other stations - much faster than waiting for paper cards. Watch the ARRL tutorial videos, they help a lot.

The secure authentication using cryptographic keys is what makes LoTW so reliable for awards. Once you're set up, your logging software can upload automatically. I've confirmed over 2,000 QSOs this way - beats mailing paper cards!
