Portable paddle showdown - CW Morse vs Begali Traveler for POTA

Planning some POTA activations this spring and need a good portable paddle. I've narrowed it down to the CW Morse Pocket Paddle and the Begali Traveler Light. Both get great reviews but there's a $200 price difference.

For those who've used both: is the Begali worth the extra cost for field work? I'm not looking for a precision instrument, just something reliable that won't break in my pack.

  • Weight and size are important
  • Operating in variable weather conditions
  • Budget conscious but willing to pay for quality

The Whiterook MK series keys are the most under-rated portable keys! I've had mine for 25 years, just toss it in the backpack with no cover, and it's been great for SOTA and overseas travel. Very reasonable at $30-$53.

I've used both extensively for POTA. The CW Morse is solid and does the job well, but the Begali feels noticeably smoother and more precise. For portable work where you're often operating in less-than-ideal positions, that precision matters. Worth the extra cost in my opinion.

The Begali Adventure is the best portable set of paddles I've ever used. If you're serious about POTA and plan to do a lot of activations, invest in good equipment from the start. You'll appreciate the quality when you're tired and cold on a mountaintop!
