first WWFF activation went better than expected, few questions though

so i finally did my first WWFF activation last weekend, went out to a state forest about 45 minutes from my house that had a valid KFF reference and honestly it was way more fun than i expected. set up my buddistick on a little folding table near a trailhead, ran about 4 watts on FT8 and also did some SSB on 40m. managed to get 44 QSOs in about 3 hours which i know is more than enough for the activation to count.

my questions are kind of scattered so bear with me. first, do i need to log the exact KFF reference number in every log entry or just include it somewhere in the upload? i used HAMRS for logging on my tablet and im not 100% sure where to put it. second, does anyone know if the hunter confirmations happen automatically once you upload to ADIF or do the hunters have to do something on their end too. and third — and this might be a dumb question — if part of the area i was in technically overlaps with another reference, do both count from a single activation or do you have to specifically activate each one separately.

anyway the whole experience was great, saw a red tailed hawk land about 20 feet from me while i was in a pileup which was pretty surreal. definitely doing more of these.

congrats on the first one, 44 QSOs is a solid debut especially mixing modes like that. to answer your HAMRS question — you dont actually need the reference in every individual log entry, when you upload to the WWFF logging system (wwff.cc or the regional coordinator site depending where you are) you associate the whole log with the reference at upload time. just make sure your ADIF has the right date, your callsign, and all the QSO details and youre good.

for the hunter confirmations, yeah its pretty automatic once your log is uploaded and processed. hunters who logged the contact on their end and have it uploaded will get credit matched up. some hunters upload right away, others wait weeks, so dont be surprised if the confirmation numbers trickle in over time.

the overlapping reference thing is a good question and the honest answer is it depends on how the references are structured. sometimes a forest sits inside a national park boundary for example and in that case yes you can claim both but you really should check with the WWFF regional coordinator for your country to be sure. there are some nuances there that vary by reference type.

the hawk thing is exactly why i do these activations honestly, you get these little moments that just dont happen sitting in the shack. i had a deer walk through my dipole feedline last spring during a WWFF and just stood there looking at me. radio was still making contacts somehow lol

im still figuring out the logging side of things myself so cant help much there but i will say if you havent joined the WWFF Facebook group its worth it, people post activation reports and there are usually folks there who can answer the technical logging stuff pretty fast
