Vanity callsign question - is it worth the $35 fee for a new General?

Just upgraded to General yesterday (W00HOO!) and got assigned KF5XYZ. I keep seeing folks talking about vanity calls but honestly I'm not sure if it's worth the hassle for someone just starting out. The $35 fee is reasonable, but I'm wondering if I should get comfortable with my current call first or jump right into the vanity process.

For those who've done it - what made you decide to go vanity vs. keeping your sequential call? Any regrets either way?

Congrats on the General upgrade! I'd say stick with your assigned call for a few months first. New licensees can't get vanity calls as their first callsign anyway, but now that you have one, there's no rush. Get comfortable operating, build some QSL history, then decide if you want something more personal.

I kept my sequential call (similar to yours) for 15 years before going vanity. Honestly wish I'd done it sooner - having a call that means something to you does make a difference. You can list up to 25 choices in order of preference to increase your chances.
