first WWFF activation went better than expected — a few questions though

 Loading...

so i finally did my first WWFF activation last weekend at a state forest about 40 minutes from my house. KFF reference, got the 44 QSOs needed and then some which i was honestly not sure would happen since i only had about 3 hours before i had to leave. ran mostly 40m SSB with a little bit of 20m near the end when the pile kind of dried up.

my question is about logging and uploading. i used HAMRS on my phone which worked fine for the actual logging part but im not totally sure about the best way to get the ADIF over to the WWFF logbook. i know you submit through the website but does it matter how fast you get it in? like is there a time window or does it just sit there waiting to be confirmed whenever? also i noticed some activators post their spot to the WWFF spotter page and some use pota.app even though this was a flora fauna ref not a parks one — is that normal or am i missing something

anyway it was a really good time. set up a linked dipole between two trees and the bands cooperated. def going to do more of these

congrats on your first activation, 44 in 3 hours on a KFF ref is solid especially if it wasnt a well known park or anything. for the upload there isnt really a hard deadline, ive had logs sitting for a while before i got around to it and it was fine. just go through wwff.info and submit the ADIF through the log entry system. takes a day or two sometimes longer for it to show up as confirmed depending on how backed up the volunteers are who process things.

the POTA app thing is pretty common actually, a lot of people use it because the hunter community overlaps a ton and honestly hunters will chase you whether its a KFF or a KG ref or whatever. some refs are dual listed too so that helps. just make sure when you spot yourself you put the right reference in and people generally figure it out. the dedicated WWFF spotter page works too but the POTA one has way more eyeballs on it most days.

nice work. i did my second one a few months ago and still havent figured out the logging upload thing completely if im being honest, so no help there lol. but the dipole between trees setup is exactly what i do too. what length did you cut yours for? im trying to figure out if i should bother with links or just bring a separate 40m dipole and call it done
