Just got my General but want to learn morse code to try CW. Complete beginner - never learned it before. I'm overwhelmed by all the different methods and apps out there.

What's the best approach for someone starting from absolute scratch? Should I start with the Koch method or Farnsworth timing? Any specific apps or programs you'd recommend?

Start with the Koch method - learn at 20-25 WPM character speed but only 2 letters at first. Add another character when you hit 90% accuracy. Morse Mania app is excellent for this and free for basic features.

Set your practice tool to 25-30 WPM to train your ear to recognize sound patterns, not individual dits and dahs. LCWO.net is completely free and offers multiple training tools with primitive but functional interfaces.

I highly recommend taking an online class with CW Academy - they have beginner courses that will get you operational in 8 weeks. Having structured lessons with an instructor makes a huge difference versus going it alone.
