New ham confused about LoTW vs eQSL - which system to use?

Just got my Technician license last month (W5XYZ) and I'm trying to figure out the best way to confirm my contacts. I keep hearing about LoTW and eQSL but I'm getting conflicting advice. Which system should a new ham focus on? I've made about 20 QSOs so far on 2m and 40m and want to start working toward some awards. Also wondering if I should bother with paper QSL cards at all given the postage costs these days.

Welcome to the hobby! For awards, focus on LoTW first - it's the gold standard for ARRL awards like DXCC and WAS. The setup is more involved but worth it. eQSL is easier to use but fewer ops participate, especially for serious DX work.

I use both systems - they each have different user bases. LOTW QSLs actually count towards ARRL sanctioned awards, such as DXCC and WAS, while eQSL.cc has its own awards system. Start with LoTW for credibility, add eQSL later for volume.

Paper cards are still magical to receive! I'd suggest doing electronic QSLs for awards and efficiency, but send paper cards for special contacts or when requested. Despite the advantages of electronic QSLs, physical QSL cards are often historical or sentimental keepsakes.
