IC-7300 vs FT-891: Which for portable POTA operations?

Been running an IC-7300 from my home shack for two years and love it, but I'm looking to get into POTA activations and the weight is a concern. The FT-891 keeps coming up as the go-to portable rig at 4.2 lbs vs the 7300's 10.8 lbs.

Has anyone made this transition? How much receiver performance am I giving up with the 891? I know the 7300's direct sampling SDR is exceptional, but for field work with compromised antennas, does it matter as much?

Also considering the detachable front panel feature on the 891 - seems like it could be useful for mobile installations down the road.

I own both and use the 891 exclusively for POTA now. The receiver is surprisingly good - not 7300 level but more than adequate for field work. The real advantage is the integrated CAT/audio interface and that 100W gets through when QRP won't.

Weight matters more than specs when you're hiking to a summit. The FT-891 paired with an LDG Z-11 Pro 2 tuner makes an unbeatable portable combo.

You'll appreciate the removable head for mobile work too - I run mine from the passenger seat with the body in the back.
