What HF privileges make General upgrade worthwhile?

Current Tech here operating mainly on local repeaters and some 10m SSB. Considering the General upgrade but wondering about the practical benefits. What HF privileges will I actually use?

I know Generals get more bands and can run up to 1,500 watts vs. 200W for Techs, but what's the real-world difference in operating experience? Is 20m really that much better than 10m for DX work?

Looking for honest feedback from folks who made the jump.

General gets you 160, 30, 17, and 12 meters - these HF bands support worldwide contacts during favorable propagation. The big win is 20m during the day and 40m/80m at night. 10m is great when it's open, but 20m is your workhorse band for consistent DX. The power increase matters more than you'd think for weak signal work.

General class lets you participate in HF contests and special events exclusive to General and higher licensees. The contest action is where HF really shines - you'll work more DX in a weekend contest than months of casual operation. Plus you get access to more than 83% of all amateur HF frequencies.

As someone who upgraded last year, the biggest difference is reliability. General opens up the magic of HF bands and connects you with operators around the globe. 10m can be fantastic but it's solar cycle dependent. With General privileges, there's always a band that's working somewhere in the world. Worth every minute of study time.
