Club meeting ideas getting stale - need suggestions

Our club meetings have been pretty boring lately - same old business meeting followed by a lackluster presentation. We're losing members and I can see why. What are some engaging activities or presentation topics that have worked well for your clubs? We've got about 25 active members, mix of new and seasoned hams.

  • Hands-on nights seem popular but not sure what to do
  • Maybe some kind of contest or challenge?

We started doing "Saturday in the Park" portable operations after our meetings and it's been a huge hit. Everyone brings their go-boxes and we just have fun making contacts while sharing techniques and gear.

Try a "build night" where everyone works on a simple project together - maybe 40m dipoles or attenuator pads. Hands-on learning beats PowerPoint presentations every time in my experience.

What about guest speakers from other clubs or even manufacturers? We had a guy from Yaesu come talk about their new DMR offerings and it was standing room only. Also fox hunts are always fun!
