I'm getting tired of manufacturers claiming "24+ hour battery life" when their HTs barely last 8 hours of actual use. Looking for real-world battery performance data from operators who actually use these radios regularly.

Some radios like the BF-F8HP have exceptional battery life - 20 hours even in the highest 8-watt setting with the 2000 mAh battery pack. What are your experiences with battery performance on current models?

Particularly interested in DMR vs analog power consumption differences. Do the digital modes really drain batteries faster?

In my testing, the Ailunce HD1 with its large 3,200mAh battery can last up to a week without charging in DMR mode with moderate use. The Kenwood TH-D75A with native FM, D-STAR, and APRS plus onboard GPS and USB-C charging gives me about 12-14 hours of mixed use.

Battery life is an important consideration - transmit time, power level, and display brightness all affect how long a charge lasts. I've found digital modes do consume more power, especially with GPS running. For extended outings or emergency preparedness, spare batteries or external power options become part of the overall setup.

Real world experience with the FT-5DR: about 10-12 hours with moderate repeater use, APRS tracking, and occasional digital contacts. The rugged design includes waterproofing and large color touchscreen, but that screen definitely impacts battery life compared to simpler displays.
