Amazing 10m opening this morning - SFI over 180!

Wow, what a morning on 10 meters! We've been seeing SFI levels much higher than anticipated for this solar cycle peak, with recent readings well over 300 and today was no exception at 182. Worked JA, VK, and even caught some South Americans on 28.400 before the band closed around 1400Z.

The higher HF bands like 10 and 12 meters are the first to be impacted during solar activity, but also the first to recover and provide amazing long-distance contacts as the ionosphere reconfigures itself. Even had some brief 6m activity with a JA station - absolutely incredible!

Anyone else catch this opening? The band was wall-to-wall signals for about 3 hours.

Caught the tail end of it around 1300Z - worked 3 new DXCC entities! Elevated solar activity means more chances to make those elusive DX contacts, even with modest antennas and power levels. The key is to be active and monitor solar conditions. My simple dipole at 30 feet was working like a beam today.

I completely missed it because I was at work! This is why I need to set up remote operation. With the ionosphere in flux, frequencies that were dead one minute can suddenly spring to life. These fleeting openings are part of the excitement of ham radio during solar peaks. Need to start monitoring the DX cluster more closely.

That's the beauty of Solar Cycle 25! Elevated solar activity is providing a window of enhanced radio propagation, and at this point in the cycle, we are enjoying frequent bursts of DX opportunities. Conditions are already very favourable, and should continue to improve until we reach the peak. Keep those high band antennas ready!
