First QRP kit build - seeking advice on efficiency tips

Just got my Tech license and want to dive into QRP. Looking at building the QRPLabs QCX+ as my first kit. Any advice on maximizing efficiency? I keep reading about antenna matching being critical - is an SWR meter essential? Also wondering about battery selection for portable ops.

Want to make sure I don't waste precious watts anywhere in the system!

Every component in the signal path becomes critical when transmitter power cannot compensate for system inefficiencies - congrats on diving into QRP! Yes, get an SWR meter. Even efficient tuners introduce losses that significantly impact effective radiated power at QRP levels.

Great choice on the QCX+! I've built several of them...they are amazing! For batteries, I'd suggest LiFePO4 - they maintain voltage well under load. The QCX+ draws very little on receive so battery life is excellent.

Antenna performance becomes absolutely critical in QRP operations where every decibel of antenna gain or system efficiency loss directly impacts communication effectiveness Don't skimp on the antenna system - it's where you'll see the biggest gains for your investment.
