first WWFF activation went better than expected, few questions though

 Loading...

so i finally did my first WWFF activation last weekend at a local state forest, KFF-something i dont remember the exact number off the top of my head. been wanting to try this for ages after watching a few videos and reading about it here and there. set up my end fed wire between two trees, ran about 20 watts on 40m and made contact pretty quickly which honestly surprised me because i wasnt sure if anyone would be hunting for references on a random saturday morning.

ended up with 12 contacts which i know isnt the 44 you need for a valid activation but i ran out of time and also my 857 started acting weird with the SWR, probably a connector issue on my feedline. anyway i logged everything on paper and need to figure out how to upload to the WWFF database, is it just an ADIF upload or is there a specific format they want? also do partial activations even get recorded or does it only count once you hit 44? genuinely curious because i want to go back and finish it properly

congrats on getting out there, that first one is always a bit nerve wracking not knowing if you set things up right and if anyone's even listening. to answer your question yeah it's ADIF upload through the wwff logbook system, there's a spot on the wwff.us site or the regional coordinator page depending where you are. you do need the right fields filled in, the reference number being the big one obviously. partial activations do get logged and they count toward your total contacts at that reference over time i believe, so if you go back and do another 40 contacts at the same reference it should combine. but the 44 minimum is for a valid activation that gets listed as complete. honestly just get the reference number sorted and upload what you have, the coordinators are usually pretty helpful if something doesn't parse right in the ADIF

12 contacts on your first try with an end fed in the trees and 20w is actually pretty solid imo. i struggled way more on my first one, kept second guessing my antenna placement and barely got 6 before i had to pack up. the WWFF hunters are out there for sure, especially on weekends. some of them monitor the spotting clusters constantly so if you self spot on wwff.rocks next time you'll probably get a pile up faster than you expect, even with low power. good luck on the second attempt
