so ive been licensed about 4 months now and i finally worked up the nerve to listen in on our local 2m net on tuesday nights. the net control actually called my callsign specifically because apparently someone told him i was a new ham in the area, which was nice i guess but also terrifying lol
anyway when he called me i totally blanked on what to say. i knew i was supposed to give my callsign and say if i had traffic or not but i just kind of stumbled through it and said something like "uh this is [my call] no traffic" and then forgot to say my location and just unkeyed. the net control guy was super nice about it and just moved on but i felt like an idiot for the rest of the evening.
is there like a standard format most nets use when you check in? i looked it up online and found a bunch of different things and now im more confused than before. does it change depending on the type of net?
