N1MM Logger vs modern mobile logging apps - worth the switch?

I've been using N1MM Logger Plus for contests - it's the world's most popular ham radio contest logging program with unmatched contest-optimized features. But I'm seeing more portable/POTA operators using mobile logging apps.

For someone who does both contesting and field operations, is it worth learning a mobile logger like Ham Radio Logger or World Radio League? Or should I stick with N1MM and just deal with laptop weight during portable ops?

Current setup: N1MM on Windows laptop, mostly HF contests and some POTA

For serious contesting, stick with N1MM - nothing beats it for contest features and real-time scoring. But grab a mobile logger like Ham Radio Logger for POTA work. Ham Radio Logger is purpose-built for field operations with full POTA, Field Day, and SOTA support. Two different tools for two different jobs!

I made the switch to World Radio League for everything and love it. You can log 100% offline with their mobile app and contacts sync automatically. The contest scoring isn't as advanced as N1MM, but for casual contest participation it works fine. Plus having everything in one ecosystem is really convenient.

As someone new to both contesting and POTA, I started with mobile apps and they're great for learning. The ADIF import/export works seamlessly and GPS auto-calculates your gridsquare which is perfect when you're still figuring things out. You can always add N1MM later for serious contest work.
