Morse code practice apps and software comparison - what works in?

Looking for current recommendations on CW practice software. What are you all using for daily practice in 2024? I've been testing several apps but want to hear real experiences from operators who've actually used them to build speed.

Specific questions:

  • Which apps support proper Farnsworth timing?
  • Any good options for practicing callsigns and Q-codes?
  • What about apps that work offline for portable practice?

Currently copying around 12 WPM and want to get to 20+ for contesting. Free options preferred but willing to pay for quality.

I've tried several apps and Morse Mania is by far the best - whether learning to hear or send, it provides excellent practice at your own pace. Best for basic training, though I wish it had easier speed/spacing adjustments - currently training at 25 WPM with 3 WPM Farnsworth spacing.

I use two Android apps: Morse Trainer from Wolphi and Koch Morse Trainer Pro - both offer variable character speed, word speed, Farnsworth timing, and practice duration. Morse Trainer's ability to read user-generated text files is invaluable - if text is comma separated, words play randomly.

Ham Morse app is great - I set it to play QSOs during my shower, then check how much I copied when I get out. Many mobile CW apps available - put one on your phone and run it anytime you're alone in the car, or practice reading signs in Morse when walking. Much easier to learn now than years ago!
