Solar flux back up to 158 - enjoying the good conditions while they last?

Been watching the numbers climb back up over the past few weeks and solar flux hit 158 today with healthy sunspot count keeping the upper bands active. 20m through 10m are offering good daytime conditions with low geomagnetic activity (K-index at 1) meaning stable propagation and minimal disruptions. Working JA and VK on 15m this morning with just 100W and a dipole! Anyone else making the most of these conditions? No major space weather events are forecast so looks like we should have reliable DX opportunities for at least the next few days.

Absolutely! Been having a blast on 17m today - worked 6 new DXCC entities just this afternoon. 12m and 10m are also open for longer periods which is great to see. Perfect time to dust off those higher band antennas.

New General here - can someone explain why SFI above 90 and K index 3 or lower means good conditions? I see these numbers but still learning what they mean for actual band openings. Thanks!

Great question! Solar flux correlates well with the intensity of ionizing UV and X-ray radiation that creates the ionosphere we use for HF skip. Higher SFI = better ionization = higher bands staying open longer. K-index below 3 means quiet geomagnetic conditions so less disruption to our signals. Hope that helps!
