Best study approach for Extra Class - which resources really work?

Finally decided to take the plunge and upgrade to Extra Class after being General for 3 years. The new 2024-2028 question pool looks pretty intimidating with all the advanced theory. What study methods have actually worked for you?

I've heard mixed reviews about just memorizing answers vs really understanding the theory. Also wondering if the Gordon West book is still the gold standard or if there are better options now. Any specific practice test sites that helped you pass on the first try?

Thanks for any guidance - want to get those extra privileges on 80/40m for DXing!

Gordon West Extra book plus Ham Radio Prep app worked great for me. Actually learn the material instead of just memorizing - too many operators just memorize and it shows on the air. The theory might seem heavy but it really helps you understand what's happening in your circuits.

Taking multiple practice exams is crucial - you'll start seeing repeat questions and get a feel for the actual test. I took at least two practice exams per day the week before my test. Also consider Ham Test Online if you prefer that format over apps.

Just passed my Extra last month using the new 2024-2028 pool! Ham Radio Prep and HamStudy both got their new materials out early. Took over 75 practice exams and found the actual test very easy. Don't let the theory scare you - build up your confidence with lots of practice tests first.
