Solar Cycle 25 Decline - Band Conditions for 2026

With solar activity expected to decline through 2026, with sunspot numbers dropping from around 130 in January to below 100 by December, what are folks seeing on the bands lately? The current reports show 20m, 17m, and 15m still good during daylight with 10m opening for extended periods thanks to solar flux around 158. Has anyone noticed the gradual change from the peak conditions we had last year?

I'm curious how the lower sunspot numbers are affecting your DX hunting and contest activities. Are you adjusting your operating habits as we head into what looks like the decline phase of Solar Cycle 25?

Been tracking this closely with my logging software. Solar flux has dropped from the highs near 160 down to around 111, making 12m/10m less reliable but keeping 20m solid. I've started spending more time on 40m at night since the higher bands aren't as dependable. The transition is definitely noticeable if you've been active through the cycle peak.

As a newer ham, this is fascinating to experience! I'm focusing on 20m, 17m, and 15m during the day and switching to 80m/40m at night. The digital modes like FT8 are still pulling in DX even as conditions change. Should I be adjusting my antenna setup for the declining cycle?

Classic cycle behavior - I've been through several of these! The bands that were quiet for years opened up beautifully during the peak, and now we're seeing the gradual decline. Don't worry though, 20m will remain your workhorse band even as we head toward solar minimum. Focus on efficient antennas and learn the low bands - they'll be your friends in the coming years.
