Yaesu FTM-400 mount location driving me crazy

So ive been trying to figure out where to permanently mount my FTM-400DR in my 2019 Tacoma and honestly its a bigger headache than I expected. The head unit separation cable is nice but the display unit is pretty chunky and everywhere I try to put it either blocks my HVAC controls or sits too low to see without looking away from the road too long.

Right now I have it kind of propped up near the cupholder area which is obviously not a real solution. Been looking at RAM mounts but not sure what I actually need to order, there are like a thousand options on their site. Anyone done this specific truck or something similar? Also running a Diamond NR770HBNMO on the roof and coax routing through the cab has been fine so at least thats sorted.

Oh and if anyone has thoughts on running the control head up near the rearview mirror area id be curious — saw someone do that on a jeep forum but not sure if itd work here. Mostly doing local repeater stuff and some APRS so I dont need to be fiddling with it constantly but still want it visible.

I did something similar in my F-150 with an FTM-300. Ended up using a RAM mount with the B size ball on a low-profile adhesive base stuck to the top of the dash near the windshield. Took me forever to find the right arm length but once I did it actually sits really nicely right in my sightline without blocking much. The separation cable on those Yaesus is long enough you have some flexibility with where the main body goes — I stuffed mine under the seat.

For the Tacoma specifically I've seen guys mount to the overhead console area but you'd probably need a custom bracket or one of those truck-specific solutions. There's a company called Lido Radio that makes Tacoma-specific mounts, might be worth a look before you go the RAM route and end up buying three wrong pieces like I did.

yeah the rearview mirror area works pretty well actually, my buddy has his Kenwood TM-D710G head unit up there in his 4Runner and its not bad at all to glance at. only thing is if you ever need to actually press buttons while moving its kind of a stretch depending on your arm length lol. for just watching APRS blips go by its totally fine though
