so ive been using a cheap RTL-SDR v3 dongle for about a year now, mostly just scanning trunked systems locally and poking around the HF bands with the direct sampling mode. it works, dont get me wrong, but the HF performance is pretty underwhelming and i keep reading that the direct sampling hack is kind of a bandaid compared to a real HF-capable receiver.
been looking at the SDRplay RSP1B which is like $110 or so and supposedly has way better dynamic range and proper HF coverage without needing an upconverter. has anyone actually done a side by side? im wondering if the difference is noticeable enough to justify it or if i should just grab a SpyVerter and call it a day. also running SDR# on windows 10 and the RSP1 apparently needs SDRuno which ive heard mixed things about. does it play nice with SDR# or HDSDR or is it locked into their software
