Been thinking about ARRL's Year of the Club initiative and how clubs are the first welcoming doorway into the hobby — a place to learn, to operate, to build, and to belong. Clubs create opportunities for mentoring, public service, technical exploration, and lifelong friendships. Our club started a weekly technical mentoring net on our repeater with special attention given to newcomers, hosted by a rotating crew of net controls.

Works great for us - new hams feel comfortable asking basic questions without judgment. We've had everything from "how do I tune my antenna" to "what's the difference between LSB and USB." What mentoring approaches work well in your clubs? Any creative ideas to share?

That's a solid approach! We do something similar but also pair new members with experienced "buddy hams" for their first few months. Really helps them feel connected beyond just the technical stuff.

Love this idea. As someone who got licensed last year, those first few weeks were pretty intimidating. Having a dedicated net where I could ask "dumb" questions without feeling judged made all the difference in staying active.

We started doing monthly "show and tell" meetings where members bring homebrew projects or interesting gear to demo. Gets people talking and sharing knowledge naturally. Plus the new folks see what's possible in the hobby.
