APRS on 2m keeps dropping packets - help?

ive been trying to get my kenwood tm-d710 working with APRS for the past week and im losing maybe 30% of my packets. using a jpole at about 40 feet, radio is set to 5 watts on 144.39. my home station shows up on aprs.fi sometimes but then disappears for hours. checked my path settings and using WIDE1-1,WIDE2-1 like everyone says but still having issues

anyone else run into this? starting to think its either the antenna or maybe the digi in my area is flaky. located about 15 miles west of atlanta if that matters

sounds like either your antenna swr is off or you're hitting a congested digi. atlanta area can get pretty busy on aprs. try backing down to 1 watt first and see if that helps, sometimes less is more

had similar problems with my ft-8900r last year. turned out the TNC was going bad and would randomly corrupt packets. try connecting to a computer with aprsdroid or something and see if you can monito
