field day prep getting overwhelming

so our club is doing field day again this year and honestly im feeling a bit lost with all the planning. last year was my first one and i mostly just helped set up antennas but this time they want me to help coordinate the digital station

anyone have tips for what actually matters vs what people stress about for no reason? feels like everyone has opinions on everything from generator placement to which logging software and my head is spinning

haha yeah field day can get crazy with all the opinions flying around. honestly the most important thing is just getting on the air and having fun. ive been doing fd for like 15 years and the years we stressed the least were usually the most successful

for digital just make sure you have good computer to radio interface and know your software ahead of time. practice at home if you can. everything else is just details that work themselves out

Our club went through the same thing last year. What helped was making a simple checklist about 2 weeks before - who brings what, antenna assignments, meal planning etc. The digital station really just needs a quiet corner and good power - don't overthink it.

Also agree with practicing the software beforehand. We used N1MM+ and had zero issues once everyone knew which buttons to click.
