general exam - worth it for someone who mostly does 2m?

been tech for about 3 years now, mostly just chat on the local repeaters and do some simplex stuff when hiking. everyone keeps telling me to upgrade to general but im not sure if its worth the hassle since i really dont know much about HF yet. like what would i actually do with it? seems like a lot more complicated than vhf/uhf

also how hard is the test compared to tech? i barely passed that one lol

HF is where the real fun is honestly. You can talk to people all over the world without repeaters, work different countries, try digital modes... its a totally different experience than local stuff. The test isn't too bad if you study, maybe spend a month with hamstudy.org or get the ARRL book. Once you get on 20 meters and make your first DX contact you'll understand why everyone pushed you to upgrade

i was in the same boat as you last year - mostly 2m fm stuff. took my general in march and honestly haven't used it much yet because i dont have an hf rig. but now that i have the privileges i'm saving up for a used ic-7300 or something. the exam really wasnt that hard, just memorize the question pool like you did for tech. good to have the license even if you don't use it right away
