Dual band mobile comparison: Kenwood vs Icom vs Yaesu reliability

Looking to upgrade from my cheap Chinese radio to something more reliable. I'm considering the Kenwood TM-281A, Icom IC-2300H, or Yaesu FTM-300DR for my daily driver. Budget is around $300-400 and I want something that will work when I need it most during emergencies.

Which brand has been most reliable in your mobile installations? I've heard mixed things about all three manufacturers' recent QC.

IMHO, Kenwood radios have the best audio quality and seem to come very close to their commercial units. I've had my TM-281 for 5 years now and it's been bulletproof. The front-firing speaker is a nice touch too for mobile use.

I'll vote for the Icom IC-2730A if you can stretch the budget slightly. With its rugged construction and reliable performance, the Icom IC-2730A is a versatile choice for ham radio enthusiasts looking for a compact and powerful dual-band mobile radio. Plus you get dual band capability which is handy.

As a newcomer I went with the Icom 2730A on my Elmer's recommendation. My Elmer suggested Icom as he thought the programming was a bit less confusing than Yaesu from his experience. Other folks recommended the Kenwood for the same reason. Haven't had any issues and the dual receive is great for monitoring.
