confused about what i can and cant transmit on my technician license

ok so i passed my technician exam like three weeks ago and ive been trying to figure out exactly what frequencies im allowed to use and what modes and stuff. i read through part 97 but honestly a lot of it goes over my head. like i understand i get HF privileges on 10 meters but only certain parts of it? and then there's something about phone vs CW and i'm not totally clear on where the line is. also someone at the club told me i can operate on 15 meters with a control operator who has a general or higher but i cant find where that actually says that in the rules. just trying to make sure i dont accidentally do something wrong before i've barely even started

yeah the band plan stuff can be a little confusing at first, dont worry. for 10 meters as a tech you get CW privileges from 28.000 to 28.300 and then phone from 28.300 up to 28.500, something like that — double check the ARRL band chart because i always second guess the exact edges. the thing about operating on higher license bands with a control op is a real thing, it's covered somewhere in 97.105 i think, basically you can transmit on frequencies you're not licensed for as long as a licensed control operator with those privileges is with you and responsible for the contact. a lot of people use that to let new techs get a taste of HF before they upgrade. anyway just grab the ARRL band plan PDF and keep it handy, saves a lot of headache

i was in the same spot not long ago lol. the part 97 document is honestly kind of dense to just read straight through. what helped me was the ARRL handbook has a section that kinda summarizes what each license class gets in plain language. also there's a privilege chart floating around online somewhere that someone made that shows it all visually, way easier than reading the actual regulatory text. the 15 meter thing your club friend mentioned sounds right to me but yeah you'd want to confirm that before relying on it
