Complete roadmap: How to study for your first Technician license?

I'm completely new to ham radio and want to get my Technician license. The Technician class is the entry-level license and gets you on the air the fastest. What's the best study approach to pass on my first attempt?

The exam consists of 35 multiple-choice questions, and you need to answer at least 26 correctly to pass. Looking for a step-by-step study plan and resource recommendations from experienced hams who've been through this process recently.

Set aside 30 minutes every day, perhaps after dinner, when you can run through study material or try taking online simulated exams. I recommend downloading the PDF version of the No Nonsense Technician Class License Study Guide for FREE and using HamStudy.org for free ham radio flash cards, practice tests, and question pools. Try to achieve an average test score of 85% before attempting the real test to assure you pass on the first try.

Just passed my Tech exam last month! Break down the information into 10 sub-pools of questions - flashcards are a great way to memorize. You have to take a lot of practice tests to prepare, and our exam readiness dashboard helps you identify areas where you need to focus your studies.

Join a study group - your local ARRL group likely offers test preparation classes in your region, and you'll meet fellow hammies to get started in the ham radio community! Basic electronics knowledge is essential - take time to learn concepts like Ohm's law, circuits, and radio wave propagation.
