For those studying General or recently upgraded, here's what General Class gets you on HF: SSB phone and digital modes below 28 MHz, plus full 1500W power on most HF bands. Key highlights:

Worth noting that Extra class still has exclusive segments on 80, 40, 20, and 15 meters, especially prime DX frequencies. But General gives you plenty to work with - I've been General for 5 years and never felt limited.

The contest privileges alone justify upgrading. Most major contests use the HF bands heavily, and you can even become a VE to administer Tech exams once you're General class.
