Struggling with Koch method at 18/5 - advice needed

I've been working through the Koch method for about 3 weeks now using G4FON, started at 20/5 but dropped to 18/5 after some frustration. Currently stuck on lesson 8 (K M R S U A P T) and barely hitting 70% accuracy on most sessions.

I'm practicing 30 minutes daily but wondering if I should stick with slower effective speed or push through? Some days I nail 90% then next day back to 60%. Really want to get to solid 20 WPM eventually.

Any elmers with Koch experience have suggestions? Thanks!

Been there! Drop your effective speed to 3 WPM for a few days while keeping character speed at 18. The Koch method works but sometimes we need to take a step back. Once you hit 90% consistently for a few sessions, bump it back up to 5.

Don't get discouraged - lesson 8 is where many people hit their first real wall because you're dealing with longer characters like K and R. Make sure you're not trying to count dits and dahs, just let the sound patterns sink in. Your brain needs time to build those reflexes.

I had the exact same experience at lesson 8! What helped me was mixing in some CWops practice sessions on LCWO.net between G4FON sessions. The variety seemed to help my brain process the patterns better. Stick with it - you're closer than you think!
