N1MM vs Log4OM for everyday logging + contests, anyone using both?

 Loading...

so ive been using N1MM pretty much exclusively for the past couple years and it does the job for contests obviously but i keep hearing guys talk about Log4OM for general day to day logging and im wondering if its worth having two separate programs or if theres a way to make one work for everything

the thing that bugs me about N1MM outside of contests is that it feels kinda clunky for just logging a random QSO, like if im just working DX on a weekday evening i dont want to have to think about which contest template to load up or whatever. but then Log4OM from what ive read doesnt really have the same contest engine so youre kind of stuck anyway

also been messing around with WSJT-X lately and the logging integration is its own headache. right now its dumping to N1MM via UDP which mostly works but i've had dupes show up a couple times and i cant figure out if its a timing thing or what. anyone else dealing with that or is it just me being sloppy

yeah i run both actually. N1MM is contest only for me, i dont even open it unless theres a contest running. Log4OM handles everything else and honestly its pretty solid once you get past the initial setup which is kind of a mess if im being honest. the ADIF import from N1MM after a contest works fine, takes maybe five minutes to merge everything into Log4OM after the dust settles.

the WSJT-X dupe thing i saw that too for a while. turned out i had both N1MM and Log4OM both listening on the same UDP port which was causing all kinds of weirdness. once i sorted out which program was actually supposed to be receiving at any given time it cleaned up. you probably already checked that but figured id mention it

honestly for just casual logging i switched to Log4OM about a year ago and havent looked back for that side of things. the LoTW and eQSL integration is way easier to deal with than fiddling around with TQSL separately every time. contests i still fire up N1MM because nothing really touches it for that, the bandmap alone is worth it.

dont overthink the two-program thing, lots of guys do it that way. just export your contest log as ADIF when youre done and import it. takes two minutes.
