WSJT-X CAT Control Troubleshooting with Ham Radio Deluxe

Having issues getting WSJT-X to work properly with Ham Radio Deluxe for rig control. Only one application can access a COM port at a time, so Ham Radio Deluxe Rig Control needs to be the application accessing the COM port. I keep getting frequency conflicts between the programs.

The rig must be set to 'Ham Radio Deluxe' in WSJT-X settings - the most common problem is setting it to the specific rig model instead. I'm running an IC-7610 and want to use both programs simultaneously for logging and digital modes. Should I launch Ham Radio Deluxe Rig Control and Logbook first to make sure both can see the rig?

Has anyone found a reliable setup procedure that prevents these conflicts?

Set the soundcard to the appropriate one for digital modes - soundcards can be shared by Windows applications, so it's fine to set it identically to how you configured it in DM-780. Once working, you'll see frequency changes in both programs.
