using DXwatch vs QRZ spotting — which one do you actually use day to day?

so ive been getting more into chasing DX lately and im trying to figure out which cluster spotting tools people actually rely on. i've had QRZ.com open basically forever for lookups but only recently started poking around their logbook and the DX spots section. then someone in my local club mentioned DXwatch and i pulled it up and it honestly looks pretty similar to me but maybe im missing something.

i also saw there's DX Summit, and i know some guys run actual cluster clients on their computers but that feels like overkill for where im at right now. mostly just want something that tells me when a decent DX station is on so i can go spin the dial and try my luck. running a modest station, 100w and a dipole, so i cant work everything i see spotted but its still fun to try.

anyway curious what apps or websites people here are using for this kind of thing. is there an android app that ties into any of these networks that's actually worth using or are they all kind of junky

I use DXwatch pretty regularly and find it pretty solid for casual DX chasing. The filtering is decent enough that I can narrow down to just the bands I care about which helps a lot when there's a pile of spots coming in. QRZ's spot page is fine but I feel like DXwatch refreshes a little faster, though that might just be in my head honestly.

For mobile there's an app called DX Toolbox that some people like, and I think Ham Radio Deluxe has cluster integration if you go that route but that's more of a whole logging ecosystem. If you're just getting started with spotting networks and running a modest station like you said, just keeping a browser tab open on DXwatch is probably all you really need. Dont overthink it. Half the battle is just being there when a good spot comes through.

yeah i went through this same thing a few months ago when i started getting into DX. ended up just bookmarking like three different sites and honestly i rotate between them depending on my mood lol. one thing i'll say is the cluster data is all kind of coming from the same network of nodes anyway so the spots themselves aren't that different, its more about which interface you like looking at.

i did find an android app called VK logger or something similar, i forget the exact name, that shows live spots and lets you tap on a callsign to pull up QRZ info which is pretty handy when youre just casually watching from the couch. not gonna replace sitting at the rig but its nice for keeping an eye on things
