Struggling with the 5-13wpm plateau - Koch method not clicking?

I've been working through the Koch method for about 6 weeks now and I'm stuck around lesson 15 on LCWO. Practice about 45 minutes daily in short sessions, character speed at 20wpm, but my effective speed is crawling along at maybe 6-7wpm. Above 10wpm can only be done by reflex, and slow code is a deadly trap - so they say - but I'm not feeling those reflexes develop yet. Anyone else hit this wall? How long did it take you to break through to comfortable 12-15wpm copying?

Hang in there! Took me about 60 days of twice daily practice to get above 25wpm head copy. The reflexes do come, but it's frustrating when you can't see daily progress. Try backing off to 15-minute sessions if 45 minutes is burning you out.

I'm in the same boat - lesson 18 on LCWO and feeling stuck! Good ops hear whole words not individual characters. Maybe we need to push through the alphabet first before worrying about speed?

There is no magic method that will have you up and running in a matter of weeks or months. CW is a language so the more you expose yourself to the sounds the better. Keep at it - consistency beats intensity every time. 73!
