New ham - confused about LoTW vs eQSL vs paper cards

Just got my General and starting to work some DX. I keep hearing about different ways to confirm contacts - LoTW, eQSL, paper cards, bureau system. What's the difference and which should I use? I'm mainly interested in DXCC eventually but don't want to spend a fortune on postage. Also seeing mixed messages about which systems actually count for ARRL awards.

Any advice for a newcomer would be appreciated!

LoTW QSLs count towards ARRL awards like DXCC, while ARRL doesn't recognize eQSL for awards credit. Success rates show LoTW at 18% vs eQSL at 9%, so definitely start with LoTW for awards. The setup is more complex but worth it for serious DX work.

Paper QSL direct method has the highest success rate at 63% but costs more. The QSL bureau provides a very cost effective way of sending cards though it takes longer. For DXCC I'd recommend LoTW for the electronic confirmations and paper direct for the special ones you really want.

I use all three! eQSL integrates with logging software and automatically sends cards which is convenient for casual contacts. You can design your own eQSL card which is fun. Just remember it won't count for ARRL awards, but eQSL has its own awards system.
