i dont know maybe its the time of year or something but ive just been really enjoying just sitting down with a coffee and working 40m in the evenings lately. not chasing dx, not logging for any contest, just talking to people. had a good 45 minute qso with a guy in tennessee last night about old tube rigs and we got onto the topic of fishing somehow and it was just... nice. this hobby is good sometimes

yeah 40m in the evenings is kind of its own thing. theres a group that meets around 7.250 most nights around here and i just check in sometimes when i want company without having to go anywhere lol. nobody cares about signal reports or antennas it's just people talking

This is actually what got me into ham radio in the first place. My uncle used to do exactly this. I got my ticket thinking I'd do all this technical stuff and mostly I just end up on 40 talking to retired guys about their gardens. Not complaining at all honestly.
