okay so i got my general a few months ago and ive been trying to figure out the 40 meter band but honestly the more i read about it the more confused i get. like i understand there are frequency allocations from the FCC but then theres also the ARRL band plan which seems different? and people keep talking about band edges like its dangerous to get too close but nobody really explains why
i was trying to get on SSB last weekend and someone told me i was too low in the band, i thought 7.150 was fine but apparently thats not where people hang out anymore or something? i dont know if i was causing interference or just in the wrong spot. my radio was showing the right frequency i think
basically just trying to figure out where its actually okay to operate and what the difference is between the legal limit and where people actually use
