First WWFF activation coming up this weekend, any tips?

 Loading...

So ive been doing POTA for about a year now and someone at the club mentioned WWFF and honestly i fell down a rabbit hole reading about it last night. Looks like there's a nature reserve about 20 minutes from my house that has a reference number already assigned to it, KFF or whatever the US equivalent is called, so im thinking i'll head out there saturday morning with the ft-891 and the buddistick and see what happens.

My question is really about the logging side of things. With POTA i just use the app and upload to the website after, is WWFF similar? Do i need to pre-announce on a specific spot or cluster? And does it matter if i work the same station twice on different bands, i read something about that but cant find it again. Any help appreciated, dont want to show up and realize ive done something wrong after the fact.

Welcome to the WWFF side of things, you're gonna enjoy it. The logging is a little different from POTA but not complicated once you get the feel for it. You'll want to upload your log to wwff.guru after the activation, they accept ADIF just like POTA does so whatever software you're using should export fine.

For spotting, definitely post yourself to the WWFF spotter or even just pota.app works for some of the crossover hunters. A lot of WWFF chasers are also watching the same clusters anyway. And yes same station on different bands absolutely counts, each band contact is a separate QSO for their records so dont worry about that. The 44 QSO threshold for a valid activation is one thing people always ask about too, just make sure you hit that number. Have a good one saturday.

oh nice, which reserve is it if you dont mind sharing? i try to chase as many of the nature references as i can on weekends, would love to look for you on the cluster. im still fairly new to all this but WWFF got me into portable operating way more than i expected, something about the whole nature angle just makes it feel more worthwhile i guess. good luck with the buddistick, hope the trees cooperate for a decent counterpoise situation lol
