first WWFF activation went better than expected, few questions though

so i finally did my first WWFF activation last weekend, went out to a state forest reference about 45 minutes from home. KFF reference, got it from the WWFF database. honestly wasnt sure what to expect since ive only done a handful of POTA activations before and figured WWFF would be similar but maybe less traffic on the spotting networks.

set up my KX3 with a linked dipole, conditions were decent on 40m and i managed to get 44 QSOs in about two hours which felt pretty good for a first time. logged on paper and then transferred to ADIF later which was kind of a pain but whatever. uploaded to the WWFF logbook and it seemed to go through fine.

couple things im confused about though — do you need a separate log upload for WWFF and POTA if the reference qualifies for both? pretty sure this particular forest is in both programs. and also whats the deal with the nature references that span multiple countries, i saw some of those in the database and got curious. is activating one of those any different from a regular domestic reference?

overall great morning out, heard a deer crashing through the brush about 20 feet from my antenna which was fun. definitely doing more of these.

congrats on the first one, 44 QSOs is a solid debut honestly. to answer your log question — yes you do need to upload separately to each program if you want credit in both. WWFF has its own logbook at wwff.co and POTA is totally separate. the good news is its the same ADIF file you're uploading, just two different websites. some guys use software that can do both at once but i just do it manually, takes like two minutes.

on the cross-border references, those are usually parks or wilderness areas that straddle an international boundary. activating them works the same way operationally but the reference number might look a little different, sometimes you'll see it listed under both country programs. the main thing is just make sure you're physically in the correct geographic area that's designated. i activated one on the US-Canada border once and it was actually kind of cool to think about. didnt really change anything about the operation itself though.

deer crashing around near your antenna is basically a rite of passage at this point lol. ive had squirrels investigate my feedline and one time a very confused turkey just stood there staring at me for like ten minutes while i was in the middle of a pileup. nature references indeed.

im pretty new to WWFF myself so cant help much with the log upload stuff but the community on the WWFF groups.io list is really helpful if you have specific questions, people there are super responsive.
