APRS digipeater not relaying my beacons — missing something obvious probably

so ive been messing with APRS for a few months now and everything seemed fine when i was just receiving, aprsfi was showing all the local digis and igate traffic no problem. but now that i set up my TM-D710 to actually beacon my position i can see my own packets on the radio display but they're not showing up on aprs.fi or even being picked up by the igate about 8 miles away that i can clearly hear doing its thing.

im using WIDE1-1,WIDE2-1 for my path which i thought was the standard thing everyone uses. 144.390 obviously. the radio is showing TX and the little packet icon lights up so its definitely transmitting something. been at this for like 3 evenings and im just going around in circles at this point. running the radio through a SignaLink into APRSIS32 on my laptop for the igate side but the mobile beacon is coming from the radio direct, no TNC needed since its built in.

anybody have a guess what im missing here, i feel like its something dumb

few things to check — first make sure your SSID is set right, if its coming up as an object or something weird the digi might be ignoring it. also double check your symbol table and symbol code arent blank or set to something that flags it as a weather station or object because some igates filter those differently.

but honestly the most common thing i see trip people up is the TX delay. if your TXD is set too short the first few bytes of the packet get eaten before the digi has fully opened its squelch. try bumping it up to like 400ms or even 500ms and see if that changes anything. the D710 i think defaults pretty short. also worth checking if youre on the right VFO side — the 710 can do weird things if you accidentally have it set to band B instead of A for APRS operation.

yeah what he said about TXD is probably it, i had the exact same problem when i first set mine up. also one thing that got me — i had the APRS menu set to INTERNAL GPS but hadnt actually acquired a lock yet so it was sending null coordinates, like 0.00N 0.00E or something obviously wrong and aprs.fi just wasnt plotting it. you can check by looking at what the raw packet actually says, there's a raw packet decoder on aprs.fi if you click around enough. if your lat/long is coming through as zeros thats your culprit right there. also unrelated but if you ever wanna do messaging through APRS the D710 is actually really solid for that, the keyboard on it is annoying but it works
