first WWFF activation went better than expected, some questions though

so i finally did my first WWFF activation last weekend, been wanting to try it for a while after doing a handful of POTA activations and someone in our club mentioned WWFF as sort of the international version with nature reserves and protected areas. ended up going out to a state wildlife management area near me that's registered as a nature reference in the database.

overall it was great, got my 44 contacts which i understand is the threshold to actually count as a valid activation, mostly 40m with a few on 20m when propagation opened up a bit. ran about 25 watts with my KX2 and a wire dipole i just strung between two trees, nothing fancy. spotted myself on the WWFF spotter network which definitely helped bring in the pileup faster than i expected for a weekday afternoon.

my questions are kind of dumb but i cant find a super clear answer -- when i submit the log do i go through the WWFF central log system or is it country-specific like WWFF-USA or whatever? also is there any difference in how hunters get credit, like is it similar to how POTA works where they just upload their log and the system matches contacts? and one more thing, does the reference have to be currently listed in the WWFF database before you activate or can you submit a new one? there's another wildlife area near me that i dont think is in the system yet.

congrats on the first one, 44 in a single outing on QRP is solid especially on a weekday. to answer your logging question -- it depends a bit on where you are but for most US activators you'd go through the WWFF-USA program which feeds into the global database, same general idea as how national programs plug into the worldwide system. the hunters side works pretty similarly to what you're used to with POTA, they upload their logs and the system does the matching, no special action needed from them beyond that.

the new reference question is a good one. you generally cant just activate somewhere and have it count if its not already in the database, but submitting a new reference for consideration isnt that hard. you fill out a reference application with the details of the protected area -- official designation, coordinates, that kind of thing -- and the national coordinator reviews it. can take a little while but if it's a legitimate protected nature area it usually gets approved. i'd reach out to the WWFF-USA coordinator directly, they're pretty responsive in my experience.

yeah nice work on getting it done. i did my first one a few months ago and totally stressed about the 44 contact requirement way more than i needed to, ended up with like 70 by the end. the spotter network really does make a huge difference, i almost didn't bother self-spotting the first time thinking it would feel weird but honestly thats just how it works now.

i dont know much about submitting new references but id be curious about that too, there's a couple places near me that seem like they should qualify but arent in the database either.
