first WWFF activation went better than expected, few questions though

so i finally did my first WWFF activation last weekend at a state forest near me, been meaning to do one for ages and just kept putting it off. ended up getting 47 contacts in about 2.5 hours which i was pretty happy with for a first attempt. ran 40m mostly, dipped into 20m for maybe 20 minutes and picked up a few europeans which was a nice surprise honestly.

anyway my questions -- do i have to submit the log to both WWFF and my national program separately? im in the US so thats KFF but i wasnt 100% sure if they sync up automatically or if i double have to enter everything. also the reference i activated was already in the database but it had zero previous activations listed, does that mean im the first person to activate it or could there be old paper logs that just werent entered? the park itself is pretty well known locally so it seemed weird.

also for anyone whos done a bunch of these, is it worth trying to get on 80m late in the day for the local hunters or does it usually not make much difference to the total count. my setup was just an end fed half wave off a 31 foot pole, worked fine but curious what others are running.

congrats on the first one, 47 contacts is a solid debut especially if you werent self-spotting aggressively. for the log submission yeah you basically upload to the WWFF logbook of the world system and then KFF pulls from that or you can submit through the KFF side, ive found just doing it through the WWFF portal covers both but double check the KFF website because they updated their process a while back and i havent activated since spring so things might have shifted slightly.

the zero activations thing is totally normal, a lot of references got added to the database from geographical data imports and nobody has ever actually gone out there with a radio. so yes you are likely the first, which is kinda cool. you can sometimes find old expedition reports on the WWFF facebook group or the reflector if youre curious but officially if the logbook shows zero youre the first recorded activation.

80m late afternoon can be great for picking up nearby hunters who are chasing awards and just getting on after work, its kind of a different crowd than the daytime 40m pileup. depends how patient you are and whether your antenna is decent on 80, an EFHW cut for 40 is gonna be a bit of a compromise but probably workable with a tuner.

nice work man, i did my first one earlier this year and got totally hooked. theres something about operating from a real park reference that makes the contacts feel more meaningful than just sitting in the shack yknow. i was running a similar setup, kx2 into an efhw and it did the job fine. the pile ups when you first spot yourself are kinda wild if youve never experienced it before lol

dont stress too much about the submission process, just take your time reading the wwff.net instructions once and it clicks pretty fast
