first WWFF activation went better than expected, few questions though

so i finally did my first WWFF activation last weekend at a state forest near me, KFF-something i dont remember the exact number off the top of my head but i logged it on the wwff portal afterward. overall it went really well, made about 34 contacts in maybe 2 hours on 40m SSB, got a few on 20m too before the band went weird on me.

my question is about the 44 contact minimum — i know thats the threshold to fully qualify a reference but does it have to be 44 unique callsigns or just 44 contacts total? i had a couple stations come back to me twice because conditions were so-so and i wasnt sure if those counted separately or not. also do park-to-park contacts count differently for WWFF versus POTA, i know theyre separate programs but i keep mixing up the rules

also the logging software situation is kind of confusing, i used HAMRS in the field and then tried to import to wwfflog or whatever the website wants and it was a bit fiddly. anyone else have a workflow they like for this

congrats on your first activation, 34 contacts on a first outing is really solid especially if conditions werent cooperating. to answer your question — it's 44 unique callsigns, so duplicate contacts from the same station dont count toward your total unfortunately. a lot of activators dont realize that at first and it can be a bit deflating when you recount but 34 is still a great start and youll hit 44 next time no problem.

as for WWFF vs POTA the programs are run independently and have slightly different rules, the contact thresholds and logging requirements arent always the same. WWFF references tend to be more internationally focused and some references overlap with national parks programs in other countries. the park to park thing — in WWFF it's called a flora fauna to flora fauna contact (or something close to that) and yes it does count toward your 44 but the main thing is it also gets logged on both ends which is kind of cool. worth checking the WWFF operating guidelines PDF on their main site, its pretty readable and clears a lot of this up.

i just export as ADIF from HAMRS and upload that directly to the wwff logger, works fine for me. sometimes the field names dont map perfectly and you have to double check that the reference number got embedded correctly in the ADIF but once you get that sorted its pretty painless. i usually add the KFF number manually in HAMRS under the comment or SIG fields before i export, theres probably a better way but that works
