DXwatch vs other cluster sites — whats actually worth using these days

so ive been trying to get more into DX chasing and everyone keeps telling me to watch the cluster but honestly im a little overwhelmed by the options. ive looked at DXwatch, the DX Summit site, and QRZ has that little spot feed on the side of band pages too. are these all pulling from the same data or are they actually different networks? feels like sometimes i see a spot on one that doesnt show up on the other for like 5 minutes.

also is there an app that does this decently on android? i downloaded a couple but they either look like they were designed in 2003 or they crash constantly. just want something i can glance at while im at the rig without having to keep a browser tab open. not trying to overthink this but it seems like there should be a cleaner solution by now

yeah the delay thing you noticed is real, those sites dont all pull from the same nodes at the same time. DX Summit and DXwatch both tap into the AR-Cluster and CC Cluster networks but they refresh on different intervals and some spots get filtered before they even show depending on the source node. its not a huge deal for most operating but if youre trying to snipe a rare one on a pile it can matter.

for android ive been using DX Toolkit for a while now and its pretty solid, not the prettiest thing but it stays connected and lets you filter by band which is really all you need. some guys swear by HamSphere or just running DX Monitor on a laptop next to the rig. QRZ's spot feed is fine for casual browsing but id trust it less when things get busy, it seems to lag behind when theres heavy traffic on the cluster.

i just keep a browser tab open to DXwatch honestly, been doing it for years and never felt like i needed an app. though i guess if youre moving around the shack or whatever that makes sense. one thing i would add is make sure whatever youre using lets you set a filter for your license class or at least the bands you can actually work, otherwise you end up chasing spots for bands you dont have and its frustrating lol
