QSL return rates: Paper vs LoTW vs eQSL comparison

Been tracking my QSL confirmations over the past year and thought I'd share some interesting numbers. Out of about 1,200 contacts:

  • Paper direct: 65% return rate (expensive but reliable)
  • LoTW: 22% confirmation rate
  • eQSL: 12% confirmation rate
  • Bureau: Still waiting on most cards (6+ months)

The direct QSL method seems most effective but costs add up fast with international postage. Anyone seeing similar patterns?

Your numbers match what I've seen. LoTW confirmation rates are about double eQSL rates in my experience. The bureau is painfully slow but much more cost effective - just need patience. For rare DX I always go direct with green stamps.

Bureau cards can take years to arrive but they do eventually show up! I just got a batch from 2022 contacts last week. The bulk sorting and mailing process means big delays but huge cost savings. Worth it for casual QSOs.

Interesting data! I'm surprised your eQSL rate is that low - many logging programs auto-upload to eQSL so I'd expect higher. Maybe more ops are using it but not checking for incoming cards? I've had good luck with OQRS systems for DXpeditions - almost 100% success rate.
