Log4OM vs N1MM Logger+ for Contest Logging - Performance Comparison

I've been using N1MM Logger+ for contests for years, but recently downloaded Log4OM after hearing good things about its modern interface. Log4OM has surged in popularity due to its modern design, extensive integrations, and ease of use. This free 64-bit Windows logger offers CAT control, DX cluster, VOACAP propagation, and strong award tracking.

However, I'm concerned about contest performance. N1MM Logger is the world's most popular ham radio contest logging program. For CW, phone and digital modes, its combination of contest-optimized features is unmatched. Log4OM has basic contest support but I'm wondering if it can handle the QSO rates needed for serious contesting.

Has anyone made the switch from N1MM+ to Log4OM for contests? I love Log4OM's interface for daily logging, but I'm hesitant to use it for major contests like CQ WW or ARRL DX. The support for FT8/FT4 data reading that works in conjunction with JTDX, MSHV and WSJT-X applications is impressive though.

Most users combine tools (e.g., Log4OM daily + N1MM contests + PoLo portable). Start with free options—they cover 90% of needs in 2025. Should I stick with this hybrid approach?

As someone new to contesting, I actually started with Log4OM and found it much easier to learn than N1MM+. For smaller contests and casual participation, it works fine. But if you're serious about competition, the experienced contesters all seem to prefer N1MM+ for good reasons.

Keep N1MM+ for serious contests - there's a reason programs like N1MM Logger+ and Win-Test are widely used, offering features for networked operation, rig control, and real-time scoring. Log4OM is great for everyday logging but lacks the contest-specific optimizations you need for high-rate operations.

I use Log4OM for daily QSOs and love it, but tried it in a small contest last month and had performance issues. The interface becomes sluggish during rapid QSO entry, and the contest scoring calculations seemed slow compared to N1MM+. Stick with your hybrid approach.
