so ive been running N1MM for contests for a few years now and it's basically second nature at this point, but for everyday QSOs and general logging i always felt like it was kind of overkill and not really designed for casual use. a buddy at the club mentioned Log4OM and i downloaded it but havent really dug in yet.

my main thing is i want something that plays nice with WSJT-X since i do a fair amount of FT8 and FT4, and i also want it to not be a pain to import my old ADIF logs from previous years. N1MM obviously handles contest logging like nothing else but outside of that i find myself just kind of ignoring half the features. does Log4OM actually do the WSJT-X UDP feed properly or is there always some weirdness with the port settings? i tried setting it up once and something wasnt connecting right, might have been a firewall thing on my end but not sure.

also curious if anyone just sticks with N1MM for everything including non-contest logging, or if that feels weird to anyone else besides me

yeah i use Log4OM for day to day and N1MM when i'm actually contesting, works pretty well keeping them separate honestly. the WSJT-X integration in Log4OM is solid once you get the UDP ports sorted, default is 2237 i think but you have to make sure WSJT-X is pointing to the same port and that nothing else is grabbing it. the firewall thing trips people up a lot, had the same issue myself when i first set it up on windows 11, had to manually add an exception for Log4OM.

ADIF import was fine for me, had like 8 years of logs and it pulled them in without much drama. there were a couple dupes and some weird entries from an old portable operation but nothing that broke anything. i'd say give Log4OM another shot, its a lot nicer for browsing your log and looking up past QSOs with someone compared to N1MM which is just not really built for that kind of thing

i just use N1MM for everything tbh. even non-contest stuff. probably not how its meant to be used but i know where everything is so i just keep using it. the WSJT-X logging through it works ok for me, i had it set up at some point and it just logs the FT8 contacts automatically which is really all i need it to do. never tried Log4OM so cant really compare
